SONY alarm

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Sometimes a piece of news happens in the technology world that is so odd, that it becomes cool. Sony’s newest feature on the PlayStation Vita most certainly falls into that category. The portable video game console, which we reviewed quite favorably on MakeUseOf, has just rolled out a new social alarm clock feature called Wake-up Club that is designed to make getting up in the morning feel more like a game and less like an arduous task.
The idea behind this is that you set your alarm, and Vita automatically connects you with other users who have set their alarm for the same time as you. When the alarm goes off, you tap the bouncing avatar on the screen, and it will let the others in your group know that you are awake. The people in the group who choose to fight sleep can be encouraged to rise up by the others who are awake.
If you happen to form a bond with one of the other players you’ve suffered with, you can tap their avatar to see more information about them and even send them a friend request. You can also view their Wake-Up Club record of how well they are doing at getting up on time. Of course, you can also see your own record as well, so you better make sure you are getting up on time. The app also has trophies, which show some of your special accomplishments.

Besides the social aspects, this app lets you choose a sound and a background to go with your alarm clock. If you struggle with getting up in the morning, and own a PS Vita, this might be a great way to make getting out of bed a little easier.
