Entering the burgeoning tablet PC market in India, a little known Bangalore-based company has launched one of the lightest as well as one of the low priced home-grown tablet PC. EAFT Technologies, which was funded by two angel investors and is set to get another round of funding from a VC, has launched a 700-gm tablet ‘Magictile-Marathon' . The tablet is priced at Rs 29,990 and is among the two lowest priced tablets in India. “With these features, we expect to compete with market leaders like Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy,” said Mr Giri Prathivadi, CTO, EAFT Technologies, at a press conference here. The 10.1” tablet PC – targeted at young corporate professionals – runs on Android 2.2 Operating System, powered by Nvidia Tegra Processor. All Marathon-users have access to over 70,000 Android-based applications, and EAFT has partnered with Giga Store for this. It has also partnered with Hungama for the entertainment content, and Vikas Publications and Cyber School for the educational content for the tablet PC. “The market size is about 65 million tablet PCs and even if we get less than 1 per cent of the market share, we will to sell about half a million tablets in the next 18 months,” Mr Jaishiv Saxena, Director, EAFT Technologies, said. The company also plans to launch four other variants of the product over the next few months. The company has been funded by Bangalore-based angel investors for the product, and is expecting a VC funding from a Bangalore-based company in about six months, the company's president, Mr Jitendhar. G.S. said, adding that it will come out with an IPO in three years. To test the product, the company had placed about 25 Marathon tablets in BMTC buses across, and “over a million people have touched, and used the tablet, and this has helped us improvise on the product,” said Mr Saxena.


EAFT D90T AND D70P DESTINY TABLETS SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

The EAFT D90T tablet spots a 9.7 inch HD 10 point multi-touch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. Powered by a 1.6GHz dual core Cortex A9 processor and 1 GB RAM, the tab runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Regarding the camera optics, a 2MP rear camera and 2MP front camera ideal for voice chat comes embedded with the tablet. For connectivity Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB with OTG, 3G via dongle, HDMI port are included. A mamooth 8,000 mAh battery will give sufficient back up without any halt.

On the other side, the D70P is a 7 inch device with HD IPS 5 point multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display at 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. A1GHz Cortex A9 processor, 512MB RAM, a micro SD card slot which support up to 32GB are included. A 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front facing camera come embedded with this model. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB + OTG, in built 3G with a SIM card slot are being included for transferring data. A 4,000 mAh battery possible of delivering ample back up is set in D70P.

The highlight would be the WorldSpace Radio which comes pre embedded with both devices. Users can enjoy 6 months of free music service available through 12 channels. As pre convenience customers can enjoy live streaming music which is totally different from other internet radio services.
