Let’s face it, radar
detectors are made for the sneaky. And yet the radar detector, there on the
dashboard or window, serves notice to law enforcement officers about your
intentions (not to mention, the devices are still illegal in some states). So
Cobra has become sneakier. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this
week, it introduced the Cobra iRadar S-Series, a remote detector that is hidden
away behind the car’s front grille. It sends information to a mobile phone with
the Cobra app inside the car. Remote detectors aren’t new; many manufacturers
had advanced models that used remote sensors so the detector could be placed
discreetly in the dash, or under it. The difference here is the iRadar S-Series
connects by Bluetooth, so it should be relatively easy to install (and hide).
Cobra has also tweaked its iPhone and Android app for improved performance, it
said. The S-Series should be in stores and ready to be hidden in the last
quarter of 2013, for $300.
