Security Enhancements

Sunday, December 30, 2012

No one doubt that security is a must for every of computer users. Security protections are really needed in order to protect your computer and personal information against the most common threats.
There are many precautions you can take to enhance your computer security protections :

  1. Turn on Automatic Windows and Microsoft Office updates.
  2. Built-in firewall in Windows(Windows Firewall) is not enough. Install a personal firewall like SyGate or ZoneAlarm . Both firewalls offer free versions.
  3. Spyware blocker is also necessary.  Spyware is a computer software that obtains information from a user's computer without the user's consent. You have to install an anti-spyware to prevent this. Ad-Aware Free and Spybot Search and Destroy are the good choices.
  4. Disabling the Window Messenger Service can help to block pop-up spam messages in Windows. All you have to do is open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and you'll see Messenger. Right-click and go to Properties Tab. Set Start-up Type to Disabled and press the Stop button and click OK.
  5. Strong passwords are also important and you have to change your User Account Password periodically. Strong passwords should have at least seven characters including letters , numbers and symbols. A good combination of characters can make it much harder for anyone to gain access to your accounts.
  6. Buy an antivirus software and keep it up to date. If you're not willing to pay, try Avast! Free Antivirus .
  7. If you have a wireless network, turn on the security features : Use MAC filtering, turn off SSID broadcast, and even use WEP with the biggest key you can get.
  8. Be skeptical of things on the Internet. Don't assume that e-mail "From:" a particular person is actually from that person until you have further reason to believe it's that person. Don't assume that an attachment is what it says it is. Don't give out your password to anyone, even if that person claims to be from "support".

Lastly, DON'T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN . Thank you.
